Roger and Deb Moroney are offering a retreat over Christmas for Alive Alone members at The Sidecar Inn Bed & Breakfast. This will be an informal gathering for bereaved parents with no surviving children. We are planning on some discussion time similar to the Open Zoom sessions, time to talk about our children, as well as time to explore the area. Of course, Roger will be cooking his famous breakfasts each morning, and there are a variety of restaurants in the area for other meals. In the past when we have had guests at the B&B over Christmas, we have offered them a seat at dinner, so we would do the same here.
The Sidecar Inn has 4 bedrooms, each with a queen bed. Two of our rooms offer a full-size airbed if needed. Depending on how many are looking to attend we could secure some additional lodging nearby, however we are still limited to a total of 12 people simply due to space around the dining room table. We want to emphasize that this retreat is not limited to couples, nor is the focus of the discussions planned to be on couples as we recognize our members are in different living situations with some truly being all alone in this world.
We are suggesting an arrival by Wednesday December 24th, and departures after breakfast on Saturday December 27th. Currently the online booking calendar is blocked from the 23rd to the 29th for this retreat. If anyone would like to come earlier or stay later we would do our best to accommodate this.
The cost for those staying at the Inn from 24th to the 27th is estimated at $60 per room to cover breakfast and my cleaning person’s cost. Additional nights at a discount off the normal rate might be possible subject to availability.
Weather in Sevierville, Tennessee over Christmas is typically cool and can be quite variable. Average daytime temperatures range from the upper 30s to mid-50s °F, while nights are colder, often dropping into the 20s or 30s. Rain is possible, and occasionally there may be a light dusting of snow, especially in the nearby Smoky Mountains. Packing layers, a warm coat, and rain gear is recommended for outdoor activities.
Our nearest airport is Knoxville’s McGhee-Tyson, with service from all the major carriers except Southwest. The Nashville airport does have service from Southwest, and it is a 4-hour drive under normal conditions. The route from Nashville to Sevierville crosses the Cumberland Plateau, and, in the winter, road conditions are often poor.
