Handling the Holidays is the November Zoom Workshop offering for Alive Alone members at the Online and Zoom membership Tier. It will be on November 17th, at 4PM ET / 1PM PT. Dr Kimber Wilkes is the speaker. An email will be sent to members following the Open Zoom on November 10th with the link to join.
The fall and winter holidays are often the most difficult times for those of us with no surviving children to navigate. Kimber will present 30 minutes of strategic means of coping during these months followed by 20 minutes to ask questions after the presentation.
Kimber’s journey began when, her son, Sargent Jesse Allen Wilkes, was killed on his motorcycle in 2013. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon in Southern California, Jesse had recently returned home from a tour in Afghanistan and was part of a group of Marine Veteran motorcyclists and was headed to join them for a ride. Even though Jesse was a safe rider and wearing proper protection, he did not have a chance when a motorist pulled into the intersection and made a fatal left-hand turn in front of him. And on the heals of losing Jesse, Kimber’s parents passed as well.
“That was certainly a tragic bend in our life’s road and from that moment on our lives and the lives of many others, were changed forever.”
We learned as C.S Lewis wrote: “Grief is like a long valley, a winding valley where any bend may reveal a totally new landscape.”
Dr. Kimber is a bereaved now childless mother first, but also has degrees in Psychology, Psychotherapy and religious studies. She is a certified grief coach “From Grief to Gratitude” and a life coach. She is actively involved with Umbrella Ministries and Alive Alone and works with adults in private practice and group therapy.
